A Former Batalha Monastery - Santa Maria da Vitoria

This UNESCO World Heritage site was built in gratitude for the glorious Portuguese victory over the Spanish in 1385, in the Battle of Aljubarrota. This victory brought Portugal its independence from Spain. The construction of the monastery, with elaborate facade, lasted two centuries. It was built between 1388 and 1533 and involved about fifteen different architects. The construction resulted in one of the most beautiful Gothic monuments in Portugal.

This is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!
