A French Chateau in the Brandywine Valley - Nemours

Nemours, the former 300-acre estate of Alfred I. du Pont, is named after the du Pont ancestral home in north central France. The 102-room French chateau-style mansion, designed by Carrere and Hastings, and built between 1909 and 1910, was a gift from Alfred to his second wife, Alicia. The extensive 10 formal garden designs are influenced by Mr. du Pont’s many trips to Europe. Every room in the house is filled with antiques from the 17th and 18th centuries, obtained from French estates.

This is what caught my eye, I hope you enjoy it!

After Alfred I. du Pont’s death in 1935, the estate remained in the du Pont family, with du Pont’s son even adding to the property with the creation of the Sunken Gardens. To ensure that the estate would be maintained as a house museum, the du Pont’s set up a trust called the Nemours Foundation.
