The caves and beaches of Lagos are best seen from the water, so taking a boat tour will offer you a unique perspective of the Algarve’s rugged coastline. You will see the series of stunning rock formations, beaches, sea caves, and grottos. Several boat tour operators in Lagos offer tours which include Benagil Cave, while not in Lagos, it is just a short boat ride away. We chose Happy Time Tours, located in Lagos, and they were excellent!

Benagil Cave is a famous sea cave and it is known for its incredible cave interior and is accessible by boat.

The rugged coastline

As you can see from this picture, there are walking trails through some of the formations.

Along the coastline you will see breathtaking sights like towering cliffs, crystal clear water, hidden beaches and unique geological features.

I was told by our tour guide that these stairs were used to walk the enslaved Africans up from the beach after the boats landed here. Lagos became Europe’s first African slave market.
