Historic Gardens in Durham, NC - Sarah P Duke Gardens

The Sarah P Duke Gardens consist of approximately 55 beautifully landscaped and wooded acres including terraced gardens, fountains, gazebos, bridges at Duke University. There are 5 miles of allees, walks, and pathways. The garden creation began in 1934 with $20,000.00 given by Sarah P. Duke.

What you should know:

  • Admission is free, but there is a charge for parking.

  • There are public restrooms in the Doris Duke Center, Terrace Gardens and the Asiatic Arboretum.

  • Check website for days and hours of operation.

  • Some guided tours are offered in season, check website for details.

  • No sports playing, tree climbing or swimming permitted.

  • Do not feed any of the wildlife.
