Historic Homes, Canals & Cobblestone Streets - Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and is sometimes referred to as the ‘Venice of the North’ because of the large number of canals, now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are historic buildings in many different neighborhoods to discover on foot or bicycle.
The city has a long tradition of openness and tolerance and is well known for its nightlife, red-light district, bicycle traffic and ‘coffee shops’. Amsterdam is considered the gay capital of Europe and the birthplace of gay rights.
The city has a state museum and one dedicated to artist Van Gogh, and the Anne Frank House.
