Home Of Eastman Kodak Founder - George Eastman Home
The beautiful former estate of the world-respected innovator, George Eastman, houses two museums, the inventor’s 50-room fireproof home and the world's oldest photography museum with both temporary and permanent exhibits, extensive library and theater. The architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White were responsible for the design of the mansion that was built between 1902 and 1905 on 12 aces with a working farm, formal gardens, stables greenhouses, barns, and pastures. The founder of Eastman Kodak Company lived here with his mother and called this mansion his primary home from 1905 until his suicide death here in 1932. Eastman never married and some correspondence discovered indicate the businessman and philanthropist may have been gay.
The museum galleries offer a variety of exhibitions of historic and contemporary photographs, cameras spanning the history of photography, and it also contains the historic Dryden Theatre.
The estate of was left to the University of Rochester and was used as a residence for the University presidents. In 1948, the university transferred the property to the museum.
This is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!
