The Little Red Lighthouse - Washington Heights, NY

Located under the George Washington Bridge along the section of the Hudson River known as Jeffrey’s Hook, this is one of the few surviving lighthouses in New York City and serves as a quaint reminder of the area’s history. The 40-foot tower was built in 1880, and initially used in Sandy Hook, N.J. When a replacement lighthouse was built in Sandy Hook, the little red light was moved to this location in 1921.

What you should know:

  • There are restrooms nearby.

  • Parking in season can be difficult.

  • There are walking trails.

  • There is no admission fee for the park.

  • You could spend a couple of hours to an entire afternoon.
