9th Century Duomo - Amalfi Duomo & Museum

This Duomo creation started in the 9th and 10th centuries and has been added to and redecorated several times incorporating many different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, and Byzantine. It is dedicated to the apostle St. Andrew whose relics are kept here.

62 wide and steep steps lead up to the front facade of the Duomo.

These bronze doors to the Duomo are bronze cast in Constantinople in 1057.

The is in the Basilica of the Crucifix, once dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and subsequently the Saints Cosmas and Damien.

Entering The Crypt which is the real heart of Amalfi because this is where the relics of the body of St. Andrew are kept.

The cathedral bell tower with the polychrome majolica cupola, through the Paradise Cloiser arches.

This is the ancient cemetery of the nobility of Amalfi, built between 1266 and 1268. It is called the Paradise Cloister.

What you should know:

• Entrance to the Duomo is free of charge.

• The adjoining Museum charges an entrance for of 3 Euro.

• Tickets can be bought for the museum in person.

• Public restrooms are available in the museum.

• Check website for operating days and hours.

• You could spin an hour or two here.

• The staff are friendly and informative, and most speak English.
