A Swedish Physician’s Dream Home - Villa San Michele, Anacapri, Italy
Villa San Michele in Anacapri was the dream home of Swedish physician, Axel Munthe. Munthe first came to Capri in 1885. He built his villa on the ruins of an ancient Chapel dedicated to San Michele. When Munthe first began building his villa, Capri at this time was covered in crumbling ruins by the Emperor Tiberius’ many villas. Some of the ruins included marble columns, statues and other artifacts buried beneath the dirt and grass. Instead of tossing them away, Munthe decided to keep them and add them to his collection.
Munthe said, ‘My house must be open to the sun, to the wind and the voice of the sea, just like a Greek temple, and light, light, light everywhere!’
Here is what caught my eye, I hope you enjoy!
