A 17th Century Lisbon Church & Monastery - St Vincent Monastery
The history of the Monastery of St Vincent dates back to the Siege of Lisbon in 1147, when the first king of Portugal, Alfonso I, promised to erect a monastery dedicated to the Martyr St Vincent. The monastery is located in the Aflama district of Lisbon, which is the oldest district in the city. It its considered one of the most important monastic buildings in Portugal. There are 24 monarchs and consorts of Portugal buried here along with 35 princes and infantes, a few dukes and duchesses. I did not go to Jeronimos Monastery, but I know people that have, and said this monastery is a better choice.
Here is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!
