A Federal Historic District On The Hudson - Cold Spring, NY

Cold Spring, like many other area villages and towns was a major industrial site. The West Point Foundry provided munitions, including the Parrott gun, for the union army during the Civil War. With the influx of workers at the Foundry, local housing, businesses and churches increased, and Cold Spring was incorporated as a village in 1846. During the last half of the 19th century the area was a magnet for artists, writers and prominent families, all attracted to the beauty of the Highlands. After the Foundry closed in 1911, the town’s prominence faded, but after World War II a rebirth occurred in the historic town. Today, the short Main Street lined with historic buildings containing a collection of restaurants, cafes and shops that slope down to the east bank of the Hudson River to the park on the river’s edge with gazebo and benches overlooking the river.

Here is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!
