An 1800’s New England Village - Old Sturbridge Village

Industrialist Albert B. Wells of Southbridge, Massachusetts began collecting antiques in 1926, and his collection grew rapidly. A decade later, in 1936, Albert’s son, George, convinced his father to move to expand on his hobby of collecting. Albert and his brothers purchased the Quinebaug Farm, and started the creation of Old Sturbridge Village, which is one of the largest and oldest living history museum in the United States. The 200-acres site portrays a portrait of country life in New England in the 1830’s with a collection of more than 40 historic buildings, including homes, meetinghouses, shops, mills and working farms. There is a blacksmith shop, printing office

As the Village grew, so did public interest in seeing history brought to life.

This is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!
