An UNESCO City of Literature With 1,000 Pubs - Dublin, Ireland

Dublin is the capital of the Republic of Ireland and its compact city center offers and exciting mixture of new and old. It is a social place with a huge reputation, busy pubs, museums and is home to one of the largest public parks in Europe. The city does not disappoint with beautiful old architecture from its 18th century heyday. Temple Bar is one of the most famous areas know for its reputation for drunken debauchery.

Part of the Dublin Castle, located in the heart of Dublin, on the site of a Viking settlement. Dublin Castle was once the headquarters of the British administration. In 1922, following Ireland’s independence, it became a major government complex.

A statue of William Smith O’Brien, an Irish nationalist member of Parliament and leader of the Young Ireland movement. He was convicted od sedation for his part in the Young Irelander Famine Rebellion of 1848, sentenced to death but later pardoned.

The resting place for some 1.5 million people here in Glasnevin Cemetery.

Christ Church Cathedral was built in the 11th century and it is known for its architecture, history and medieval crypt.

Brazen Head is officially Dublin’s oldest pub dating back to 1198.

This cross, in Phoenix Park, marks the site where Pope John Paul II preached to 1.25 million people in 1979. Phoenix Park is one of the largest public parks in any capital city in Europe.

The Temple Bar Pub was established in 1840.

The white building pictured here on Dame Street is the Olympia Theater. The building first opened as Dan Lowery’s Star of Erin Music Hall in 1879. It has gone through many changes over the years and in 2016 the theater underwent a major refurbishment to bring her back to her former glory.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral was built during the 13th century and is the largest cathedral in Ireland.

• People are friendly and helpful.

• There are many restaurant and entertainment options.

• The currency used is the Euro.

• You will need a valid passport and a UK travel power adapter.

• Sometimes there is a service charge included in the bill, if not a 10-15% tip is acceptable.

• You can spend a few hours to a few days exploring the city.
