Offering Fine Dining Since 1770 - Gadsby’s Tavern Museum
Gadsby’s Tavern Museum consists of two buildings, a tavern built in 1785, and the City Tavern & Hotel built in 1792. This establishment was the center of Alexandria’s social, political and commercial life. Colonial taverns were important because this is where middle and upper class people would gather to get the news and discuss current events. Notable patrons that enjoyed the hospitality here were, George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, the Marquis de Lafayette, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, and General Braddock to name a few. Under Gadsby’s direction the tavern and hotel became a popular destination for wealthy, prominent Americans.
Today the tavern is under the care of the Office of Historic Alexandria and serves as a museum and a restaurant.
This is what caught my eye, I hope you enjoy!
