Party & History On The Rhine - Old Town Mainz, Germany

Two thousand years of history have leant Mainz a cosmopolitan air with various architectural styles dot the city. The city has a 1,000-year-old cathedral, half-timbered houses and a medieval market square. It is tucked away close to Germany’s wine country and is one of the oldest cities in Europe, dating back to the 1st century A.D. Mainz is probably best known as the birthplace of Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press.

Along with Cologne and Dusseldorf, Mainz is one of the carnival capitals of Germany, with its celebrations spanning a month. Fassenacht is the peak celebration in spring with all-night parties, extravagant dinners, costume balls and a parade known as Rosenmontag.

This is what caught my eye, I hope you enjoy!
