The Former Home Of The MacDonald Clan - Armadale Castle

The ruins of the Armadale Castle were once the Highland country estate of the Clan Donald, Scotland’s largest clan. The castle was built around 1790, with an extension added in 1815. It suffered a fire in 1855, and the central section of the building was rebuilt and occupied by the MacDonald family until 1925, when they abandoned it. The castle was put on the market in 1972 and purchased by the Clan Donald Lands Trust. By this time the the west part of the castle was in bad shape and the dangerous portions demolished.

Today, there are 40 acres of historic and woodland gardens all set around the romantic ruins of the castle with stunning views of the Sound of Sleat and the mountains of Knoydart.

Here is what caught my eye, I hope you enjoy!
