A Former Frick Country Home - Nassau County Museum Of Art

The mansion that houses the Nassau Country Museum of Art, in Roslyn Harbor, was originally built by Lloyd Stephens Bryce utilizing the Neo-Georgian designs of architect Ogden Codman. This land was originally part of William Cullen Bryant’s Upland Farm land which overlook his home Cedarmere and Hempstead Harbor. In 1919, Henry Clay Frick, co-founder of US Steel Corporation and art collector purchased the house as a wedding gift for his son Childs and his wife. The couple hired Sir Charles Carrick Allom to do some alterations and named the estate Clayton. The Fricks lived here for almost 50 years until Child’s death in 1965. The 145- acre estate was purchased by Nassau County and converted to the Nassau County Museum of Art. The grounds include the sculpture park, formal gardens, the pinetum, ponds, woodlands and the Milliken-Bevin Trellis.

Here is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!
