A Living Museum Village On Long Island - Old Bethpage Village

Old Bethpage Village Restoration is a living history museum that aims to recreate a typical 19th century Long Island community. It offers a glimpse into past with its historic buildings and costumed docents and various demonstrations of life back then including blacksmith, carpenter, basket-weaving, broom-making and more. The village is a collection of 50+ Long Island buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

This is what caught my eye; I hope you enjoy!

The village came into existence in 1963, when Nassau County acquired the 165-acre Powell farm which was originally to be the site of the Nassau County Zoo.

The village opened in 1970 with dozens of historic structures that were saved from demolition.

The 209-acre village has a collection of buildings including homes, barns, church and a schoolhouse.

This is the Powell Farmhouse, the only original building located on the property when it was acquired.

What you should know:

• There are walking trails.

• Public restrooms are available.

• Tickets can be purchased on site.

• You could spend a couple of hours to entire day here depending on your level of interest.

• People are friendly and helpful.

• Picnicking is allowed.

• Check website for days and hours of operation and any special events.
