Over The Top In Dyker Heights - Holiday Lights

The Dyker Heights Holiday display has become one of the most sought out New York attraction during the holiday season. The Brooklyn neighborhood is home to the most over-the-top Christmas decorations including life-sized Santas, sleighs with reindeer, snowmen and some houses even have bump Christmas music playing. Native New Yorkers as well as tourist wander down the decorated streets take in the Holiday experience.

What You Should Know:

  • There are usually food trucks in the area with quick bites, coffee and hot chocolate.

  • Most houses are decorated by the weekend after Thanksgiving, but mid to late December things are usually in full swing until the first week of January.

  • Most houses turn on their displays at dusk and off by 9:00 or 10:00 p.m., although some leave it on later.

  • You can drive or walk through the area.

  • Respect people’s privacy.

  • There are no public restrooms.

  • Weeknights are less busy than weekends.

  • There are additional trash receptacles in the area to prevent littering.

The light display is unofficial, it is a collection of homeowners, and does not have a an official website. There are a some tour operators that conduct bus or walking tours.
