Visiting Mount Airy, North Carolina should be on every Andy Griffith Show fan’s bucket list. This is Andy Griffith’s hometown, the real life “Mayberry” and the inspiration for the town the show takes place in.

The Sheriff Andy Taylor and Opie Taylor bronze sculpture donated by TV Land and dedicated in 2004. It depicts the shows iconic opening sequence, and is located at the Andy Griffith Museum.

• Restrooms are available in the Visitors Center.

• There is an admission fee charged for the Andy Griffith Museum, which the Siamese twin exhibit.

• The people are friendly and helpful.

• A map of the town’s attractions is available at the Visitors Center.

• There are a few restaurant options.

• You could spend a couple of hours here.

• Pilot Mountain State Park charges a shuttle fee to take you to the top of Pilot Mountain

• There seemed to be ample free parking, either on the street or in parking lots.
