New York City’s First Designated Historic District Is Here - Brooklyn Part II

Brooklyn Heights is one of New York City's most historic neighborhoods. In the 1830s, steam ferries made it America's first suburb and in 1965, it became a National Historic Landmark and the City's first Historic District.

What you should know:

  • The Hop-on-Hop-off bus is a great way to get the lay of the land.

  • There are walking trails in Prospect, Main Street, Brooklyn Bridge Parks and in Green-wood Cemetery.

  • Restrooms are available in the parks.

  • You could spend a couple of hours to a couple of days exploring Brooklyn and all it has to offer.

  • Major areas are very walkable.

  • There are many restaurant and entertainment options.

  • There are on the street and parking lot options; check posted parking regulations signs. Overall, parking can be difficult.

  • The #s2, 3, 4 and A and C trains go to Brooklyn.
